Week Ending 27th November 2011
Saturday 26th November saw seven of us out, with a nice ride past Ford, down to Walberton and behind Fontwell. Before climbing up to Goodwood via Eartham. No casualties or punctures this week. I finished Covering Glyns saddle this week, so look out for his Hetchins in the shop,

Another good turnout on Saturday morning!!
Tuesday night saw a better turn out this week, with 6 of us out on a nice evening. Pace was good at about 18mph average. Winter bikes starting to make an appearance now.
Saturday saw another good strong group out.... well done boys!!
Dave and Kevin did a 40 mile ride out to Goodwood on a nice Sunday morning. We couldn't quite work out how the wind could be against us the whole way..... but still a good ride.

Week Ending 30th October 2011
This week saw only 3 hardy souls out on Tuesday. After one lap the heavens opened and made the conditions too miserable and dangerous for anyone to endure.
Cars, darkness, headlights, heavy rain and diesel covered roads really don't mix!!!
Saturdays ride was out again this week but I have not heard how that went.
Sunday Dave and Jo were out for a 40 miler again and were joined this time by Kevin and Lesley. Unfortunately Lesley wasn't feeling too well and turned back early on. We carried on towards Eartham and Goodwood. Fortunately we were on our winter bikes as the roads were pretty wet and filthy. After we left Chichester we became aware of a lot of diesel on the road, which we eventually found was being dropped by a 4x4, which had eventually broken down just past the Oyster Catcher in Climping. We had all been very wary of the slippery roads and just started to relax when we turned left at the mini roundabout into Climping. Jo was in front followed by Kevin and then Dave. Jo hardly started to make the turn when her front wheel slid away and dumped her on the floor. She hit her face on the road just as Kevin, unable to avoid her, ran over her legs, just managing to stay on the bike. I thought running over my wife was probably not such a good idea so I just touched the brakes and........ bang..... down I went. There were cars everywhere but fortunately neither us or our bikes were hit by any. Not one of the buggers stopped to see how we were..... unbelievable!!! On inspecting the road...... yes you guessed it..... more diesel.
Jo, was in considerable pain but we managed to limp home at about 10mph. On inspection she has grazed her chin and got a massive bruise, twisted her knee which has swollen considerably and rebruised the bruise she had from a couple of weeks ago's accident. I was pretty much injury free. Jo's bike has some damage to the brake lever and I managed to cut a chunk out of my overshoe.
Now, I have to try and convince her not to give up on cycling!!!!

Tonight we had a total of 7 riders starting out, but unfortunately the pace proved too much for 2 who pulled off before the completion of a whole lap!! That left only some of us to complete the 3 laps of Route1, a total of about 38 miles for those from Rustington.
Once again the issue of how hard should winter training be comes to the fore. Everyone always says "We will take it steady" but of course one person's "steady" is another person's easy or "balls out"!!. I certainly don't have any answers, but I guess the stronger guys are always going to make the weaker one's amongst us suffer unless we slow down to the speed of the slowest. Obviously the stronger guys might not want to do that. I suppose traditionally winter training is usually long slow/steady miles, so the purpose of Tuesday nights could be to progressively increase the number of laps at a more consistent pace? Gradually increasing distance / pace over the weeks?
Maybe it could be discussed on the forum?

A lovely dry, sunny, but initially, very cold day saw 14 out for this mornings ride.
As we headed out towards Worthing young Mark clipped a wheel and went down. Fortunately he wasn't badly hurt and we were soon heading up the climb towards Steyning Bostal where a friendly mountain biker kindly stopped to take a team photo for us. (See bottom right!
The temperature continued to fall as we headed north to Spithandle Lane, reaching a rather chilly 2.8 degrees C. Coming back through Findon we saw the aftermath of a very nasty looking car accident, followed shortly after by the "bunch" sprint for the speed camera in Offington Lane. The roundabout prior to this at the cemetery having done it's best to disrupt things!!!!
All in all a good ride of about 34 miles at an average of 17.5mph

Tuesday Night Training 11th October 2011
First Tuesday night ride was a success. About 9 riders turned up for a good 4 laps of the "Route 1" Worthing circuit. Glyn led us round for a lap and pointed out the 2 sprint points. The first lap, which was done before 7pm, as a reccie, was a bit busy with traffic but after that it wasn't too bad, getting progressively better as we went on.
Hopefully we can build on this in future weeks and wouldn't be really impressive it we all had team kit!!!!!

Unfortunately Tom Foot fell of his bike on the way home from work and suffered a broken collar bone this month. Tom expects to be out of action for about 6 weeks. Get well soon Tom.
